  Spencer Citizens > Honor Roll Achievement Celebrates MBC's Service Ethos
Increasing numbers of students participating in community service and more hours of service performed bolstered MBC's already acclaimed efforts and earned the college a spot on the 2013 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.
 

Ever Ahead: Ever Motivational
Three high-achieving students have received the Grace Sutherland and George Schilling Herscher Scholarship for two consecutive academic years. Margaret "Peggy" Herscher Hitchman '40 established the scholarship to recognize her parents for their sacrifices in ensuring she received a college education during the Great Depression. Hitchman's generosity is characteristic of donors to Ever Ahead, the college's largest fundraising campaign to date.

  2013 > For Seniors, Spirit of College Unity is Catching Fire
As freshmen, members of the Class of 2013 began their college experience with the motto, "Hearts on Fire," and they ended their orientation week with a candlelight service on Hunt Hill. Four years later, they are working to establish a bonfire pit on campus that will serve as their senior gift to the college.
 
  VWIL > VWIL Cadets Score Another First
Two sophomore cadets in Mary Baldwin College's Virginia Women's Institute for Leadership (VWIL) have earned the coveted Badge for Military Proficiency awarded by the Bundeswehr, the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Germany.
 
  ABC Fashion Show > Dressed for Success
The Advisory Board of Visitors (ABV) sponsored a Couture Fashion Show to display fashionable career outfits for interviews, meetings, and professional office settings.

  • MAKE A CAMPAIGN CONNECTION: Ever Ahead: The Campaign for Mary Baldwin College continues its road trip at the Forest Lake Club in Columbia, South Carolina, on April 23. Invitations will be sent soon for the event, which will include time to mingle with area alumnae/i and MBC faculty and staff, remarks by President Fox, and a viewing of the campaign video.   • REACH OUT IN RICHMOND: The Richmond Business Outreach group — whose members include Adult Degree Program alumnae/i in the Richmond area — focuses on networking and connecting to business opportunities while promoting MBC and its programs. All alums are invited to the group's activities, which include restaurant social events, Career Speed Networking, and special guest speakers from business and higher education.   • SHARE WITH PARENTS: A new MBC web page designated as the Parents' Corner provides helpful tips and advice to parents of prospective and current Mary Baldwin College students. Parent Council member Cindy Bolton shares pointers on the page now.

  Reunion > Reunion 2013 begins April 11 with special events for the Class of 1963 as they celebrate their 50th Reunion. A perfect opportunity to reconnect with classmates and the college, the weekend includes a punch crawl at Staunton restaurants and a memorial run/walk for Dr. Brenda Bryant.
