  Summer Research

Ever Inquisitive

This summer, dynamic  student-faculty collaborative research projects at MBC are supported by the Margaret C. Woodson Foundation as part of what will become a reliable, endowed source of funding for future investigations. The Virginia M. Strickler Research Fund, established in November 2012 as a gift toward Ever Ahead: The Campaign for Mary Baldwin College, is the first endowment to support the Summer Research Fellows program and will begin generating revenue in 2014.

Liz Shupe > Shupe Will Stay Connected in Retirement
After two years at the helm of Mary Baldwin's alumnae/i and parent outreach efforts, Elizabeth "Liz" Jennings Shupe '70 is retiring. Shupe returned to her alma mater in 2011 — she also served as associate dean of students in the 1970s — to work for a short time as a major gifts officer before being named director of the Office of Alumnae/i and Parent Relations. In that role, she oversaw strategic planning, event preparation, budgeting, and constituency outreach. A longtime former member of the Alumnae/i Association Board of Directors and an active alumna in many ways, Shupe will stay connected with MBC while she enjoys more time with friends and family, which includes a new grandson.

  Boldly Baldwin in Peru
We asked students and faculty members to take a clear, plexiglass Boldly Baldwin cover frame on their May Term 2013 adventures abroad, and this photo was taken in Ecuador while exploring the Rio Bueno. The class spent the afternoon and evening with a Kichwa family in a remote province. If you would like to participate in our Cover Capture project, contact Dawn Medley.
