Physician Assistant Program Reaches Accreditation Milestone

The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) has granted Accreditation-Provisional status to Mary Baldwin’s new Master of Science in Physician Assistant (MSPA) Program at Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences.

Set to open on January 4 with a full cohort of students, the new program embraces the team-based, collaborative, and interprofessional approach to patient care — a hallmark of education at Murphy Deming.

“We look forward to welcoming a talented pool of students this winter to join our growing health sciences family,” said Linda Seestedt-Stanford, founding vice president of health sciences. “This accreditation milestone represents months of planning and curricular development. Our PA program provides our incoming charter class with nationally recognized faculty, a fully equipped simulation center, and a focus on interprofessional education.”

The MSPA program is the third graduate program to be based at Murphy Deming. The college already supports two classes of students in the Doctor of Physical Therapy and Doctor of Occupational Therapy programs. The college is also home to a new program for nurses seeking their bachelor degrees. The first cohort of students in that RN to BSN program enrolled this August.

Accreditation-Provisional is an accreditation status granted when the plans and resource allocation, if fully implemented as planned, of a proposed program that has not yet enrolled students appear to demonstrate the program’s ability to meet the ARC-PA Standards or when a program holding Accreditation-Provisional status appears to demonstrate continued progress in complying with the Standards as it prepares for the graduation of the first class (cohort) of students. Accreditation-Provisional does not ensure any subsequent accreditation status. It is limited to no more than five years from matriculation of the first class.
