Bumbling Hearts

After

as the clouds rumble away
water slumps off leaves
of trees with muddy brown trunks and tops
with a whispered kiss of gold
the calico pads up the driveway to go
prowling across even grass for the meager woods;
cars slush by sporadically while
occasionally birds cry or laugh or both.

And

in between: only the
desperate buzzing search
for nectar.
