Class of 1968 Celebration Day

In honor of their 50th Reunion, the Class of 1968 will kick off the weekend early with a special day of celebration just for them on Thursday, April 26.

 

10:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. Registration, Alumnae House

12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.  A Toast to ’68 Luncheon with Cheese and Wine Pairing, Barren Ridge Vineyard

In keeping with Mary Baldwin’s tradition of Apple Day and apple orchards, begin your 50th Reunion weekend with a special luncheon and wine and cheese presentation, created specifically for the Class of 1968, at a former apple orchard turned vineyard. MBU wines are available to purchase.

Spend the afternoon with classmates for a behind-the-scenes tour of Mary Baldwin’s dynamic Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences, led by faculty and students. A trailblazer in its field, MDCHS draws on Mary Baldwin’s proud 175-year history of innovation.

6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Rewind to the ’60s: Class of ’68 Dinner and Grafton Society Induction Ceremony, Colonnade Ballroom, Stonewall Jackson Hotel

Mary Baldwin University President Dr. Pamela Fox and Alumni Board President Theresa Lewis Cash ’99 welcome the Class of ’68 into the Grafton Society. The Grafton Society recognizes the senior alumni of the university, promotes friendship among members of the society, and fosters a continued close association of its members with the university. All Mary Baldwin alumni who graduated 50 or more years ago are automatically members of the Grafton Society.

1968 comes alive with the 50th Reunion Class Dinner and Grafton Society Induction. Reach back in time as the ’60s are recreated through live music, nostalgia, and friendships.

9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Campus Walking and Residence Hall Guided Tour

Take a stroll with a tour guide from the Office of Admissions exploring the highlights of MBU’s beautiful campus. You will be delighted to see the fully refurbished and renovated Alumnae House and Betty Gold’s four on-campus sculptures. New highlights also include the Center for Student Success, a cutting-edge solar flower, and upgrades to the Wenger Student Center.

 

9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Return to Academia Mini-Symposia Series, Location TBD

Relive the intellectual and engaging experiences that defined your MBU education. Enjoy informative and timely topics that are sure to spark your imagination and challenge your thinking, as only MBU can. Faculty to be announced.

 

10:15 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Morning Tea and Discussion: A View from the Provost’s Office, Cynthia Haldenby Tyson Terrace (Rain Location: University Café)

All alumni are invited to enjoy tea and lively conversation with Provost Dr. Ty Buckman as he shares exciting MBU updates and news.

3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Marching VWIL: Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership Scholarship Ceremony and Parade, Physical Activities Center Field (Rain Location: Inside Physical Activities Center)

All alumni are invited to enjoy the marching expertise of the Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership featuring musical accompaniment by MBU’s marching band.

6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Baldwin En Blanc Dinner, MDCHS Patio

All alumni are invited to celebrate at this chic en blanc fine dining event. Dress all in white and enjoy elegant dining at its best and a beautiful evening under the stars! Be as imaginative as you want in your attire, but keep it “blanc!” Be on the lookout for the option to sit with your Reunion class or affinity group — VWIL, athletics, Baldwin online, PEG, African American and Multicultural Alumni Network, MDCHS, and Shakespeare and Performance to name a few!

Central to Mary Baldwin’s continued legacy is its ability to evolve and meet the needs of our changing world. This Day of Engagement will highlight the many ways in which MBU is innovating and expanding its student-centered programming to empower tomorrow’s leaders.

As we discuss and look forward to our university’s exciting future, we encourage all alumni to join us for Saturday’s events and conversations, even if you are unable to attend the entire Reunion weekend.

The VWIL corps of cadets invites you to honor and celebrate VWIL Founding Director Dr. Brenda Bryant in this refreshing 5K run/walk. Enjoy light refreshments, an awards ceremony, and a faculty-led guided tour of the Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences. Proceeds benefit the VWIL Brenda Bryant Scholarship Fund. Registration Fee: $20.

10:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. MBU Honors: President’s State of the University Address and 2018 Distinguished Alumni Awards Recognition, James D. Francis Auditorium

Mary Baldwin University’s 9th president Dr. Pamela Fox will give the State of the University Address.

MBU alumni are extraordinary, and their accomplishments benefit both society and campus. To celebrate these accomplishments, Dr. Fox and MBU Alumni Board President Theresa Cash Lewis ’99 will present awards to nominated individuals in recognition of their career achievements and service to society and Mary Baldwin University.

Join MBU faculty and staff for this series of 15 minute-long TED-style talks highlighting new and innovative programming that furthers our mission to train the leaders and changemakers of the future.

Downtown Staunton brims with charm and offers great eats, shops with personality, and a beautiful setting for our family friendly Block Party. Local entrepreneurs are thrilled to showcase their unique dining and shopping experiences with MBU alumni.

5 p.m. – 7 p.m. Affinity Gatherings, Locations TBA

Want to get together with MBU alumni who share common MBU activities and interests? Now is the time! Alumni Affinity Gatherings are get-togethers of alumni based on their involvement in or allegiance to a particular group, experience, or common connection. Be on the lookout for event details from MBU faculty members for specific plans.

 

6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Class Dinners/Gatherings and Pictures (Dutch Treat)

Staunton comes alive at night with exciting restaurants, wine bars, and coffee shops. There is a taste for every palate and a drink for every thirst! Here is your chance to hit the town with your classmates. Class pictures will be taken at each Reunion Class Dinner by a professional photographer (with the exception of Grafton Society members). Specific times and locations TBA. In the meantime, feel free to connect with your class leader for class-specific plans.

Join us for conversation and refreshments by the fire pit as campus sparkles with illumination, providing a lovely setting for the traditional candle lighting ceremony at the fire pit.

All alumni are invited to say farewell to Reunion during brunch. Reflect on your favorite Mary Baldwin memories from the weekend and make plans to stay in touch with alumni friends old and new!

 

1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Afternoon of Caring: Campus Service Projects

Put the finishing touches on your Reunion weekend with beautification opportunities on MBU’s main campus. Specific projects to be decided.
