Mary Baldwin University is currently seeking a Manager of Human Resources, who will assist the Director of Human Resources in the daily administration of human resources policies and procedures, with an emphasis on employee recruitment, onboarding, and benefits administration. This position will be a key addition to our Human Resources department, helping Mary Baldwin to attract and retain a diverse and dedicated workforce. This is a full-time, salaried position eligible for the full suite of university-provided benefits including vacation/sick leave, health insurance, retirement plan, etc.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

Recruitment and Onboarding

  • Maintain MBU’s Human Resources website, including job postings and updating HR documents and benefit information
  • Assist in the public listing of positions through additional channels, working to expand reach and relevance to attract excellent pools of candidates.
  • Assist in the acceptance and routing of incoming applications, as appropriate. Work with staff to help identify, and implement, improvements to internal processes in this area.
  • Steward new employees through the onboarding process, including collecting new hire paperwork, reviewing and selecting benefits options, and reviewing relevant university policies.

Benefits Administration

  • Administer various elements of MBU’s employee benefits programs, including: communicating with employees regarding benefit information and changes; assisting in the administration of the annual open enrollment process; processing monthly insurance invoices and payment reconciliations; processing various remittances to external benefits providers through file uploads; coordinating the termination of benefits for exiting employees
  • Manage the worker’s compensation claims process and OSHA reporting and annual worker’s compensation audit
  • Manage FMLA and other leave processes, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations
  • Track employees’ work hours and perform quarterly and annual audits to ensure FLSA and ACA compliance
  • Utilize various systems to prepare employee payroll and benefits data for required surveys and ad hoc reports


  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least three (3) years of human resources/benefits experience, with an emphasis in supporting an employee benefits program
  • Knowledge of and experience with federal and state laws relating to employment and employee benefits, including ERISA, FLSA, FMLA, ADA, ACA, HIPAA, and DOL and IRS regulations
  • Experience with human resource information systems (HRIS)
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in use of the Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Excel, etc.) and Google applications (Mail, Calendar, Drive)
  • Exemplary communication and organizational skills
  • Experience in a higher education setting is highly desirable.

COVID-19 Policy

Mary Baldwin University is a vaccinated campus. All employees, including new hires, must comply with the university’s COVID-19 Vaccination Policy that requires employees be vaccinated or have an approved medical or religious exemption on file.
