Events to Note for Commencement Weekend 2017

Throughout the weekend of Commencement there will be multiple ceremonies taking place. Below are a few notable events to attend during Commencement Weekend, but be sure to check out the entire weekend schedule online at the Mary Baldwin University commencement page.

 

May 20

Change of Command Review

Salute the achievements of Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership graduates as they pass their sabers to next year’s seniors. 9 a.m., Parade Ground at the Physical Activities Center. Rain Location: Physical Activities Center.

 

Baccalaureate Ceremony

Senior undergraduates and their families are invited to a traditional service that provides for a moment of reflection during the festivities of Commencement Weekend. Graduate students and families are welcome to be part of the audience. 10:30 a.m., First Presbyterian Church, 100 E Frederick St.

 

Ajani Ceremony

Celebrate inductees who have supported a multicultural campus community. Speaker: Tonquise Jabari Evans ’03. 1:30 to 3 p.m., Rose Terrace Lawn. Rain Location: Student Activities Center.
(Group picture will be taken at 1 p.m.)

 

Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences Doctoral Hooding and BSN Pinning Ceremony

Doctoral candidates in Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy and Bachelor of Science in Nursing candidates are recognized for her accomplishments. 2 to 4 p.m., Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences, Fishersville.

Shakespeare and Performance Hooding Ceremony

All S&P students, graduates, and families are invited to witness the hooding of master of fine arts degree candidates on the Blackfriars stage. 5:30-6:30 p.m., Blackfriars Playhouse, 10 S. Market St.

175th Commencement Exercises

The signature event of Commencement Weekend, graduates in all programs at the university will be recognized for their accomplishments, and award winners will be announced. 10 a.m., Barbara Kares Page Terrace in front of Martha S. Grafton Library. Please be seated by 9:45 a.m. Rain location: 10:30 a.m. James Madison University Convocation Center, Harrisonburg.
