Supervisor: Nicole Goodnough

Office: Integrated Communications

About the job

The Office of Integrated Communications is seeking an enthusiastic, hard-working, and creative social media assistant. The assistant will assist (get it?) with content creation, reviewing channel strategy, and engaging with the #MBUfamily on social media.

We use our social media presence for recruitment purposes, community engagement, and information sharing. We need your help to create eye-catching, student-centered content to tell the MBU story. The social media assistant will work closely with our marketing and communications team to strategize and create content for MBU’s existing platforms (Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn) and potentially help launch our presence on TikTok and Snapchat.

About you

You love connecting with people, sharing your adventures online, and — most importantly — love the #MBUfamily. Bonus points if you throw in some creative tomfoolery and end up on TikTok #fyp. You’re all over social media, have strong writing and organizational skills, the ability to work both as part of a team and solo, meet deadlines, and creativity to spare. You get excited if you capture a great photo of you and your friends, and are looking for a way to beef up your videography skills. You love getting to know your fellow students, are active in clubs and organizations, and have the ability to relate to and highlight our diverse #MBUfamily.

What you’ll do

  • Assist with managing official MBU social media accounts, ensuring consistent messaging, tone, and look across all platforms
  • Develop and create content with a focus on MBU’s student-centered experience
    • Take photos/videos, write share copy, assist with gathering testimonials, cover events, etc.
  • Maintain brand standards and professionalism online and in-person
  • Take and file photos/videos in SmugMug (our digital asset library) as needed
  • Actively engage with MBU channels
    • Tagging friends, sharing/liking, answering questions, etc.
  • Work with social media director to create content calendars, monthly reports, and review analytics and update strategy as needed

What you’ll learn

  • The importance of managing the online presence for a brand
  • How to interpret data and how it determines a winning strategy
  • How to prepare streamlined, informative reports for future supervisors
  • Strengthen your collaboration, writing, and organizational skills
  • Sometimes crazy ideas are the best ones

Hours: 8-10 hours per week
