Job Duties: Students in this position will assist the admissions office in preparing mailings. Tasks include:
- Assisting with printing addresses on envelopes for large mailings
- Placing address labels on envelopes for small mailings
- Folding letters and stuffing envelopes by hand for small mailings and with folder/inserter machine for large mailings
- Placing postage on envelopes for smaller mailings
- Keeping mail sorted and organized to ensure accuracy
- Carry mail to Support Services
- Perform other duties as assigned, both in the preparation of mailings and in the greater admissions office
Expectations:
- Have a strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Report on time for scheduled work hours and communicate the need for non-emergency absences in advance
- Use mailing equipment (envelope printer, folder/inserter machine) with care to ensure accuracy of mailings and prolong the life of the equipment
- Complete tasks in a timely fashion
- Remain focused while working independently
Special skills or knowledge you need:
- Basic computer skills
- Basic knowledge of mailing processes (how to address an envelope, etc.)
- Students may come in to contact with visitors to the admissions office, so professionalism is required at all times
- Experience with using mailing equipment and preparing mass mailings is a plus, but not required
Skills you will develop: How to operate mailing equipment, including an envelope printer and folder/inserter machine. How to execute mass mailings efficiently and accurately. Many different professions require knowledge of mailed communications, so these skills look impressive on resumes for a variety of careers.
Hours: 8-10 hours a week
