A Message from the Dean

Dear Prospective Student:

Welcome to Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences. You will find our facility to be the most dynamic interprofessional learning community that the region has to offer. Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences is the newest college at Mary Baldwin University, comprised of the programs of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Healthcare Administration, Physician Assistant, and RN to BSN Nursing. Inaugurated in 2014, Murphy Deming carries on Mary Baldwin’s long and proud 175-year history and solid academic foundation.

Integral to its success is its interprofessional design in curriculum, collaboration, and construction. This is what makes Murphy Deming shine. Each individual curriculum has been developed in collaboration with all the other programs. All of our faculty collaborate with colleagues in other academic units within the college in research, classroom teaching, and with clinical opportunities. Our spacious classrooms are constructed to support interprofessional education and offer the latest in instructional technology. In addition to multiple screen viewing, lecture capture capability allows students to review classroom lectures from anywhere at any time. Video conferencing brings the world to Murphy Deming and supports guest lecturers, telemedicine experiences, and teaming experiences.

Each program in the college requires a significant amount of clinical experience. In health-related fields, learning the content in the classroom is not enough to make a good practitioner. Aspects of the clinical requirements of each of the programs prepare students for the work they will do in their career upon graduation and make them distinct within their fields of study.

Interprofessional by design.
