When to Go:

Sp Sring/Summer:

Ø    The lake provides a wonderful place to sit and fish or watch turtles sunning and other wildlife in motion. At the far end of the pond watch for Red Spotted newts and other aquatic life.

Ø             The 0.6 mi trail around the pond provides a nice canopy from the hot sun, while the picnic area is a great place to sit and relax in the shade.

Ø             Flowers are in bloom and waiting to be admired.

Braley pond is a 5 acre man made pond located in the north end of the Deerfield Valley. It was constructed for flood control, but later artificial reefs were added to provide fish habitat. It is stocked with keeper size rainbow trout. Largemouth bass bluegills and channel catfish have also been introduced.

Directions:

 

Ø    From Staunton take US 250 west for about 16 miles go over Hankey Mountain.

Ø     Turn right on State Route (SR) 715

Ø     Take the next left onto Forest Development Road (FDR) 348.1

Ø     Follow the signs about .5 mile to the day use area
