From August 29 through September 23, 2016, the exhibition, “THIS IS EXACTLY WHERE I WANT TO BE: Recent Work by Brooke Inman,” will be on view at Mary Baldwin’s Hunt Gallery.
Born in 1983, Inman grew up in the small town of DeMotte, Indiana. She received a BFA in printmaking from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2006, and in 2008 she received an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University. Inman is currently an adjunct faculty member at two universities in Richmond: the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Richmond and the Department of Painting and Printmaking in the School of the Arts at Virginia Commonwealth University. She also teaches printmaking in the Richmond community at Studio Two Three, The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and The Visual Arts Center of Richmond. Her studio practice embraces intaglio printmaking, screen printing, zine-making, drawing, and multi-media explorations of color.
Inman’s recent work continues her interest in the everyday and her quest to gain understanding of both small and large issues within the human experience. She says the following about her new work: “My work develops from the desire to connect with others and nature. Through persistent questions, the work is constructed out of rudimentary writing and drawing, traditional printmaking techniques, collecting, and installation. Issues, such as the desire for personal connection, fear of loneliness, longing for perfection, and the health of our planet, are balanced between the simplicity of appearance and complexity of thought. Including private thoughts (the personal) with larger questions about humanity (the public) and the health of our planet (the natural), the work reflects my pursuit of understanding.”
A reception will be held for the artist from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on September 5 in Hunt Gallery. The public is invited to attend. Hunt Gallery is dedicated to the exhibition of contemporary work in all media by regionally and nationally recognized artists.
