Pier Pensacola

Grey-stained clouds fill the air

part like ink swimming through water

And the bay breeze sweeps the waves off their toes

endless expanse embracing endless expanse

body against body

Watch how they share coldness like we share warmth

how seagulls kiss

beaks full of dying fish

soundless

calling to the waves

beckoning for reunion

Hear the waves lap against copper glow

little kisses to beams of lighthouse

twinkling

yearning towards stars

eclipsed in darkness

Sitting on the pier

watching night fall around me

Time balances, a coin flip in mid-air

I catch it, warm metal gripped in fist

a sea breeze swirling in my palm

the last shred of childhood

carefree and innocent and mine

that I let go
