My work explores the nuances of intimacy- more specifically, the longing for closeness and familiarity. I am influenced by the writing of Lucy R. Lippard, who, when discussing a sense of place observed “By entering into a hybrid, new place, we change in it, and in each situation we play a different role”. I am interested in this type of reciprocal identity inasmuch as it relates to individuals rather than place, answering the question “Who are we in relation to other people?” I often approach this subject from a familial sense, examining the intersections and strands of the family unit. My work reads slowly. With this slowness comes a sense of history, which I seek to apply through processes, references, and the viewers’ experience.
