Natural history / Folklore

The plant is listed as mildly toxic when many seeds are eaten. The toxic principle is anthraquinines which result in diarrhea.36 It is readily eaten by upland game birds as suggested by its name.

Description

Yellow pea-like flowers summer and occasionally early fall.
