Hawkweeds are able to reproduce asexually, this was unknown in Mendel’s time and probably the reason he was unable to duplicate his success with Peas using hawkweeds. ⁹ Was introduced to Maine from England as a garden ornamental in 1875, by the 1890’s it had spread to Michigan. ⁹
