Young unfolding leaves can be eaten as salad.²⁰ In some regions of the Appalachians it was known as mountain lettuce.²⁹ The plant is becoming rare in some states due to collecting for the horticultural trade. It can take six years before the plant is large enough to flower.³⁴

Description

April-June White flower turning pink with age. Three petals, sepals and leaves. Differs from Wake Robin in not having a dark center. Rich woods, coves and on slopes.
