Goodyera Of Goodyer (John Goodyer 1592-1664) pubescens  downy. Plantain Latin planta sole of the foot refers to the low-lying leaves.

Used by the Indians as an antidote for snake bite, the leaves being chewed and then applied to the bite.1

Description

July – August  Greenish White flowers growing from all sides of a bracted spike. Leaves basal and conspicuously veined with white.
