Natural history / Folklore

Michaux spent from 1785 to 1796 exploring North America from Florida to Hudson's Bay, and west to the Mississippi. Asa Gray credited Michaux with laying the foundations of the North American sylva.2

Description

One to three flowers in dry oak woods. Note L. superbum also called Turk's Cap has a greater number of flowers per stem and is found on wetter sites.12
