Melanie is currently a 4th year at UVA studying Commerce. She became interested in art because she grew up with over 40 food allergies. Instead of eating the desserts and foods that friends enjoyed, she enjoyed them by trying to draw them as realistically as possible. She eventually grew out of most of her allergies and translated this love of details and experience (both tactile and imaginative) into new subjects. Instead of sticking to one medium, most of her art becomes mixed media with rich textures blended together. She now sees art a lot like entrepreneurship: a way to turn intangible ideas into an exciting new reality.
