2006-07 Susan Paul Firestone Lecturer in Contemporary Art
Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, artist Margaret Evangeline has lived and worked in New York City since 1993. Her work has been exhibited at Stefan Stux Gallery, the Drawing Center, Art Resources Transfer, The Ise Foundation, and White Box Gallery (New York City), ARTOMI International (Ghent, New York), the Taipei Fine Art Museum (Taiwan), the Hafnarborg Museum of Art (Reykjavik, Iceland), Galerie du Tableau (Marseilles, France), The Museum of the City of Madrid, the Palm Beach Center for Contemporary Art, The Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts, the Visual Arts Center of Richmond (Virginia), the Islip Museum (New York), the Opelousas Museum of Art (Louisiana), the Columbus Museum (Georgia), the Nave Museum (Texas), the Mobile Museum of Art, and the Tucsun Museum of Art, among others.
Evangeline is represented by Byron Roche Gallery in Chicago. She is the recipient of numerous awards including the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant (2001), and a New York Foundation for the Arts Grant (1996). Evangeline’s work has received wide coverage in publications such as Art In America, ArtNews, The New York Times, The New York Post, The Chicago Tribune, and Art Newspaper. She has lectured at the Whitney Museum in New York, Montclair State University, and as a visiting artist at Cooper Union, Ringling College of Art, and the Maryland Institute College of Art, Hoffberger Graduate School.
