You’ve scored the interview, now ace it with the tips below! We’ve divided the interview process into three parts that are easy to understand so that you’re ready to WALK, TALK, and LOOK THE PART!
Before the interview…
Research everything about the company-mission, vision, values, the people who you may work with. Make it your job to know what the company has done and what they want to do in the future. Write out potential questions and write your responses, memorizing your lines. The night before, grab a friend and practice, practice, practice! It’s also important to get a good night’s rest, eat breakfast, and make sure you have the clothes that you are going to wear laid out and wrinkle free. Print off several multiple copies of your resume and any other materials you are taking with you in a folder/portfolio. Be sure to turn-off cellphone. If possible, try to leave it in the car. Do not be late! Try to give yourself some time by arriving 10-15 minutes early.
The Interview
Your first impression is the key to success. Make sure you’re dressed in business professional attire, walk in with a smile and give a firm handshake. Maintain eye contact and be prepared for the question, “Tell me about yourself” by explaining the skills you have that are relevant to getting the position that you are interviewing for. Focus on skills that you can implement immediately. Employers want to hear/ know how you hit the ground running with their company. Remember, be yourself. At the end of the interview ask the employer about the next steps and when you will be notified of a decision.
Post- Interview
After the interview, always follow-up with the employer on the same day. Be sure to send an email or even mailing a ‘thank you’ card that affirms your gratitude and sincere interest in the position.
