The Chemistry and Physics Department at Mary Baldwin University invites applications for an adjunct professorship to begin January 2024. The department is seeking an individual with a strong commitment to inclusive pedagogies in science as well as enthusiasm for the environment of a small student-centered university. The successful candidate will have expertise in Physics and must be able to teach lab-based courses.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Teaching 200-level General Physics II lecture and lab.
  • Using and/or developing suitable laboratory course materials in conjunction with current faculty

Course Description:

PHYS 202: General Physics II: (continuation of PHYS 201) a foundation for further study in physics, biology, chemistry, and pre-medicine. Topics include the phenomena of classical mechanics, wave motion and sound, fluids, electricity, magnetism, and light, each developed from first principles, often historic discoveries. Equations for physical laws use algebra, trigonometry, plane geometry, and calculus, as appropriate. Laboratories provide direct familiarity with natural phenomena. Credits: 4 / Recommended courses: MATH 211–212 Calculus I/II, which may be taken concurrently.

Qualifications:

  • MS in Physics/Chemistry or related discipline required, PhD preferred (or active enrollment in a graduate program).
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
