Position Summary:

The Director for Employer Relations and Workforce Development is a member of the McCree Center for Life Success Leadership team. In collaboration with McCree and University leadership, this role is responsible for developing strategies to connect students with experiential learning opportunities, internships, and full-time job opportunities.

The ideal candidate will be able to establish productive relationships with campus partners and external stakeholders through relevant career readiness programming with demonstrated outcomes. The Director is part of a small and innovative team committed to the success of all Mary Baldwin students. The ability to multi-task, collaborate and be flexible while taking on a range of responsibilities is essential to the role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Partnership Development

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to manage regional workforce development efforts and serves as a relationship manager in the Shenandoah Valley region.
  • Identify opportunities to grow depth and breadth of MBU involvement with existing partner organizations
  • Cultivate new relationships with employers through outreach, site visits, and conferences. Manage ongoing employer relationships through feedback and regular touchpoints.
  • Optimize the recruiting experience for employers as they seek MBU students and alumni.
  • Work proactively with faculty to identify internships/candidates and employers.

 Operations Management

  • Establish and maintain a detailed database of organizational contacts focusing on FT hiring, workforce association contacts, and connections to internship/co-op.
  • Manage Handshake job postings, including the connection to student information systems. Ensures that job postings are current and disseminated to students when relevant.
  • Collect and analyze data for first destination survey efforts.
  • Ability to manage social media accounts, including Instagram and LinkedIn.

 Program Creation and Additional Responsibilities

  • Develop and facilitate relevant career programming for students.
  • Coordinate and facilitate employer-facing programming.
  • Co-manage career fair activities.
  • Other relevant responsibilities as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related area
  • At least three plus years of relevant work experience, preferably working in employer relations functions within HR, career services, sales, account management, business development or related field
  • Communications skills, including verbal and business writing, in a variety of settings (e.g., one-on-one, large groups, presentations, stakeholders, peers, executives)
  • Project management and strong detail orientation with an aptitude for database management and information systems.
  • Ability to establish deep connections with a broad array of stakeholders and constituencies.
  • Ability to travel in the region and to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in talent management with a specialization in university relations.
  • Familiarity with Handshake, Salesforce, Tableau, or similar platforms.
  • Market research skills (e.g., survey development and analysis, market studies, competitor benchmarking)
